Hallam Auditorium rebuilt at last
By the Lincoln Journal Star
Another building destroyed in the May 2004 tornadoes has been rebuilt.
The new Hallam Auditorium will be dedicated Sunday at 2 p.m.
The original auditorium — a 50-year-old building that was often the setting of wedding dances, family reunions and graduation parties — was one of the only buildings left standing in Hallam after tornadoes all but leveled the Lancaster County community on May 22, 2004.
Immediately after the storm, the building was the site of community meetings. When the Legion Hall was repaired a few months later, community organizations began meeting there, instead.
Community members covered the building in tarps and plastic before the winter came in 2004, while considering repairing the old building. But mold and the elements took a further toll on the building.
In March of 2005, the village board voted to raze the building and build a new one.
The dedication is open to the public.
