Pamela Greene and her family made the trip from Elmwood on Thursday afternoon to audition for Lincoln’s first-ever reality show.

Greene, 36, was reluctant, but her husband, Jim, who heard about the auditions on the radio Thursday morning, was persistent. He convinced her to give it a shot.

“I want to be on the show for the obvious reason,” Greene said. “It’s a chance to better myself  and better my family.

A second chance to audition

“Top Affiliate Challenge” will hold auditions from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Nebraska Bookstore, 1300 Q St.

“I want to learn something, a skill that will help me the rest of my life. I think everybody needs a chance or break in life.”

Thursday was the first day of live video auditions for the Web reality show “Top Affiliate Challenge,” which pits contestants against one another in the real-life marketing world. The show will feature three teams of four online marketing contestants, each led by an online marketing guru.

The teams will compete to promote and sell Lincoln products and businesses on the Internet.  And the site, www.topaffiliatechallenge.com, will chronicle the contest.

Local businessman Thor Schrock, the brain behind the show, said you don’t have to know a thing about marketing to get on “Top Affiliate.”

“If I just wanted some stuffed suits, I could go to a conference for that,” Schrock said. “We’re genuinely looking for somebody who is interesting and passionate, who has strong opinions and believes in themselves.”

Or perhaps someone who juggles.

Like Jon Ryan, a manic resident of Friend, who made his way to the auditions and gave a full-blown performance that included juggling three balls and playing the harmonica.

“That was fun,” Ryan said after his audition. “What do you want me to do next?”

Filming for “Top Affiliate” starts in July, and the show will run exclusively on the Web site later that month.

If you can’t make the auditions either day, you can produce your own video interview and post it on the “Top Affiliate” Web site.

Once the video interviews start to filter in, contestants can promote themselves, trying to nab votes from friends, family or just strangers.

The 10 contestants with the highest scores will go onto the final show. And two additional contestants will be determined at the producers’ discretion.

" Considering the premise of the show is based around marketing, one would think they would have tried to come up with a catchier title. "
