Standing Bear resolution advanced
By the Lincoln Journal Star
The Legislature’s Government, Military and Veterans Affairs Committee advanced a resolution to the floor Wednesday that expresses support for an effort to put Ponca Chief Standing Bear’s likeness on the $1 Sacagawea coin.
State Sen. Bill Avery of Lincoln introduced the resolution (LR223) in January. Speaker of the Legislature Mike Flood will now decide if and when to allow time for debate on the resolution.
The U.S. secretary of the treasury will be choosing Native leaders to be featured on the flip side of the coin each year starting in 2009.

need...more dollars to devalue the dollar...maybe we
can bring back susan b anthony to be the treasury secretary...i know this is being overly simplistic but
you would think we would have better things to do in the legislature than worry about coins...how about health care
...social security...getting out of iraq and the like... "
