Nebraska football coach Bo Pelini says the Huskers’ primary recruiting emphasis always will “start, begin and end in Nebraska.”

To that end, Husker recruiting coordinator Ted Gilmore has assigned each of the team’s nine assistant coaches to certain areas throughout the state. The coaches will be looking for scholarship recruits and walk-ons alike, said Jeff Jamrog, NU assistant athletic director for football.

In addition, Nebraska consistently will have five assistants recruiting assigned areas in Texas. The Huskers’ scholarship class of 2008 features nine Texas high school players.

“You walk into a school with that ‘N’ on your chest, and you’re immediately going to establish a certain amount of respect,” said defensive coordinator Carl Pelini, whose recruiting coverage area includes the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, along with running backs coach Tim Beck.
