COLUMBIA, Mo. — Nebraska nearly fouled up, literally, a golden opportunity to pick up a much-needed Big 12 Conference victory against a depleted Missouri men’s team.

The Huskers had two starters with four fouls apiece with more than 12 minutes to play, and lost one of them in the closing minutes, but survived for a 66-62 victory Wednesday at Mizzou Arena.

Ryan Anderson’s steal and layup with 16.3 seconds remaining sealed the victory. Nebraska improved to 12-6 overall and 1-4 in the Big 12. Missouri fell to 12-9 and 2-4.

Missouri played without five suspended starters. Senior point guard Stefhon Hannah is out 4-6 weeks after suffering a broken jaw early Sunday morning in an altercation outside a Columbia bar. Four of his teammates, two of them starters, were suspended by coach Mike Anderson on Tuesday.

NU’s Aleks Maric scored 13 points but fouled out with 2:20 remaining when he caught an entry pass and elbowed his defender. Nebraska led 60-58. It was the first time this season Maric has fouled out.

Ade Dagunduro, after missing four straight free throws to start the second half, picked up his fourth foul with 17:05 remaining. Maric collected his fourth foul with 12:10 to go when he caught Vaidotas Volkus from behind on a driving jam. Volkus completed the three-point play, cutting Nebraska’s lead to 45-44.

The Tigers tied the game three times in the second half, the latest at 60-60 with 1:50 remaining, but never led.

Steve Harley’s driving shot in the lane with 1:17 left put Nebraska back ahead, and the Huskers rebounded a Keon Lawrence miss to get the ball back. Missouri trailed by two with a chance to tie when Anderson intercepted a pass at midcourt. Harley, who led the Huskers with 15 points, made two free throws, and Missouri scored a meaningless late basket.

Nebraska had a nine-point lead late in the first half when Maric sat with his second foul with 2:09 remaining. Missouri closed the half with a 7-0 run, with five of those points coming at the free-throw line. The lone basket came after Missouri rebounded one of its missed free throws.

Nebraska hosts Iowa State on Saturday.
