Nebraska’s volleyball team may be able to salvage a spring season after all.

Head coach John Cook said Wednesday that Maggie Griffin, a senior last season, has agreed to play this spring, allowing the Huskers to compete in exhibition matches.

It appeared NU would not be able to play in exhibitions after Rachel Holloway, the team’s only underclass setter, announced she was leaving the program last week.

Cook first discussed the situation with Griffin on Tuesday.

“She said, ‘Whatever you need me to do, I’ll do it,’ ” Cook said of Griffin, who started for NU as a sophomore but was a backup to Holloway the past two seasons.

“I can imagine some of the feelings she might have inside,” Cook said, “but Maggie has been great about giving to this team. She has a lot of great friends within the program.”

Cook said that NU is now looking to take its training trip to Florida over spring break, where the Huskers would play Florida Atlantic. The Huskers are also hoping to bring in Kentucky to play at the Coliseum.

Also, this week, Nebraska coaches have been talking with a number of setters who have announced their intentions to transfer from other schools.

Sydney Anderson is set to join Nebraska in August, but only if the former Utah setter has completed her associate’s degree and met other eligibility requirements.
