The third-ranked Nebraska wrestling team gets a little national exposure tonight when it faces No. 2 Oklahoma State as part of the ESPNU Wrestling Invitational at 6 p.m. in Oklahoma City.

The event, a double dual on ESPNU (Time Warner Cable 235), also features a matchup between No. 13 Wisconsin and No. 17 Oklahoma. Both matches will be shown at the same time in a split-screen format.

Six of the 10 matches in the NU-OSU dual will feature two nationally ranked wrestlers. That’s one of the reasons Husker sophomore Jordan Burroughs said he expects every point will be important.

“I know it’s going to be a tough dual and come down to bonus points (major decisions, technical falls and pins),” Burroughs said. “I’ll go out there, wrestle my hardest and hopefully come out with a few extra points that we might need to win.”

Burroughs leads the Huskers in bonus-point wins (14) this year.

The Huskers are also looking to make a little history by bringing home a rare win in the series. Oklahoma State, which has 34 NCAA team championships in its storied history, has a 48-2-1 series advantage against Nebraska. In fact, the last time the Huskers beat a full-strength Cowboys squad was in the 1921-22 season, the first time the two schools met in wrestling.

In 1993, the Huskers rolled to a 39-12 victory against a Cowboys squad that was decimated by NCAA probation. One of the Huskers that season was Tony Purler, who left OSU and transferred to Nebraska for his senior year and won a national title.

Also at 7 p.m. today, CSTV (cable 305) will air last week’s National Duals finals, in which Iowa defeated Nebraska 24-6.
