Hundreds of people perused the goods at Nebraska’s largest horse and horse-drawn equipment auction at the Lancaster Event Center on Saturday.

The sale has been at the Saunders County Fairgrounds in Wahoo for the past eight years, but moved to Lincoln this year.

“We grew out of that location. This will be bigger, better facilities with heat,” said Chuck Jacobson of Jake’s Auctions, the sale’s Lincoln-based operator.

The auction got its start 30 years ago in a Denton pasture and has been held in Columbus, Bellwood and other towns.

It features buggies, sleighs and horse-drawn equipment, as well as about 20 horses and a wide range of Western-style products — log furniture, cowboy decor and more.

“We have an awful lot of stuff that people haven’t seen before,” Jacobson said.

The sale starts at 9 a.m. Sunday and likely will end about 4 p.m.

Jake’s has contracted to hold the auction at the Lancaster Event Center on the third weekend in January for the next two years.

" Does this mean we can quit paying for the horse stables at 84th street out of our taxes? Or is this article an incentive to put more money in the place? "
