Tour de Nebraska bike tour heads west
By The Lincoln Journal Star
The 21st annual five-day Tour de Nebraska bicycle ride will head to cowboy country and the Sandhills on its 300-mile round trip in June.
About 175 cyclists will leave St. Paul June 18 and camp overnight in Burwell, Atkinson, Neligh and Genoa.
The ride is moving west after 20 years in eastern Nebraska.
“We are excited to offer a tour that will give people a chance to ride through the Nebraska Sandhills and experience a completely different area of the state,” says Susan Larson Rodenburg, who organizes the tour with her husband, Rich.
The noncompetitive tour will start and end in St. Paul, 120 miles west of Lincoln. Cyclists will stay overnight in Burwell (June 18), Atkinson (June 19), Neligh (June 20), Genoa (June 21) and return to St. Paul June 22.
Tour de Nebraska is a mental and physical challenge for cyclists of all ages and from across the country. It’s grown from 11 cyclists to 175.
Tour de Nebraska arranges meals, rest stops, daily maps, itineraries, luggage/gear transfers, emergency sag support on the highway, daily fruit and water.
Riders camp at parks or may sleep inside at high school gyms.
The $215 registration fee includes: T-shirt; daily maps and itineraries; handbook; meal and camping arrangements; fruit; kick-off breakfast; sag service; luggage transport; and Saturday night’s Tour de Nebraska Awards dinner.
Registration information is available at: www.TourdeNebraska.com or by request to: Susan@TourdeNebraska.com, (402) 421-1401.
