Aleks Maric scored 22 points to lead the Nebraska men’s basketball team to an 86-50 rout of Maryland-Eastern Shore on Friday night at the Devaney Sports Center.

Nebraska improved to 11-2 in finishing the nonconference portion of its schedule. The Huskers have a week to prepare for their Big 12 Conference opener Jan. 12 at home against third-ranked Kansas.

The Huskers have won six straight games, their longest winning streak entering conference play since 1996-97, the first year of the Big 12 Conference.

The final tuneup for Nebraska featured a 41-9 run that began with 2 minutes, 55 seconds remaining before halftime and lasted until 11:43 remained in the game. In that span, the Huskers pulled away from a 27-20 lead against the Hawks (2-12).

Maric sparked that run with 10 points early in the second half. The Huskers also scored at will out of transition, with a series of easy layups and dunks coming from Cookie Miller, Ryan Anderson and Ade Dagunduro.

Nebraska opened the game by hitting four of its first five shots, including a dunk by Maric, to lead 8-0.

The Huskers had a better start to the second half, making six of their first seven shots as part of a 15-2 run. They had 34 points in the first 9½ minutes of the second half, at which point Nebraska coach Doc Sadler began emptying his bench.
