Officers allegedly assaulted as high-speed chase ends

A 20-year-old woman from Schuyler and three 16-year-old girls are awaiting criminal charges following a high-speed chase in Butler County Thursday that ended with a car in the ditch and the alleged assault of two law enforcement officers.
Butler County Sheriff Mark Hecker said there was also a 12-year-old girl in a vehicle that spun into the ditch off Nebraska Highway 92 near Garrison at about 3:15 p.m. She was released to her mother in Schuyler.
“There was a pursuit in the county,” Hecker said. “A vehicle was put in the ditch and the occupants — five occupants — ran, all females. And when officers were trying to take them into custody, two officers did get some minor injuries. We’re talking scratches and bumps.”
The 20-year-old, whom he identified as Glenda Dubon, is in jail in David City. The 16-year-olds from Columbus, Schuyler and David City, were placed in juvenile detention in Lincoln and Madison.
Butler County Attorney Julie Reiter said Friday the suspects were likely to make court appearances and hear the charges against them next week.
Reiter acknowledged allegations of very aggressive behavior by the car’s occupants against the arresting officers. Besides Hecker and Butler County deputies, the law enforcement team included Polk County deputies and the Nebraska State Patrol.
“Very unusual, very serious charges,” Reiter said.
According to arrest reports, the pursuit began in Columbus, where at least one police car was rammed, and proceeded south from there on U.S. Highway 81 to Nebraska Highway 92, where the chase turned west.
The car was reported as stolen and two of the girls were listed as runaways.
“At this time we’re not ready to say who was injured or struck,” Hecker said.
