Husker men take charge against Rutgers

Aleks Maric scored 19 points to lead three Huskers in double figures, and the Nebraska men’s basketball team defeated Rutgers 63-51 on Sunday afternoon.

Nebraska (6-2) used two key runs, one in each half, to hold off the Scarlet Knights (6-3).

The Huskers closed the first half on a 10-0 run, holding Rutgers scoreless over the last 4 minutes, 44 seconds before halftime for a 32-21 lead. The Scarlet Knights had led by as many as seven.

Nebraska stretched its lead to 41-24 when Rutgers made a charge behind guard Corey Chandler, who had 10 straight points to pull the Scarlet Knights within 44-39. Chandler finished with a game-high 25 points.

The Huskers responded with a 12-0 run, started by a Ryan Anderson three-pointer, and built their lead to 17 points, the biggest margin of the game.

Nebraska held Rutgers forward JR Inman to 12 points.

Anderson had 14 points and Dagunduro scored 13 for the Huskers, who host Savannah State on Tuesday night.
