A change in scheduling will give Bo Pelini a bye week before what would seem his first big test as Nebraska’s head football coach.

Nebraska has made date changes to 2008 home games against Virginia Tech and Western Michigan.

NU officials announced Wednesday that the Virginia Tech game has been moved back a week to Sept. 27, and the Western Michigan game, originally set for that date, will now be Nebraska’s season opener on Aug. 30.

That means Sept. 20 will be a bye week for the Huskers.

NU’s first five games for the 2008 season are all at home. The Huskers will play eight home games total — including visits from Kansas and Missouri.

The Nebraska-Virginia Tech game will be televised, either on ABC, ESPN or Fox Sports Net.

After the opener with Western Michigan, the Huskers will host San Jose State and New Mexico State before the Hokies come to town.

Nebraska has also announced that it has finalized the 2010 schedule.

The Huskers will host Western Kentucky (Sept. 4), Idaho (Sept. 11) and South Dakota State (Sept. 25), in addition to an already scheduled Sept. 18  game at Washington. All of those contracts were finalized earlier this fall.

Nebraska now has its football schedules filled out for the next three years.

In 2009, the Huskers’ nonconference schedule features home games against Florida Atlantic, Louisiana-Lafayette and Arkansas State, sprinkled around a road trip to Virginia Tech.
