Man charged with attempted sex assault
By the Lincoln Journal Star
Lincoln Police on Monday arrested a man suspected of attempted sexual assault on a child through the use of a computer.
Derek J. Harris, 19, met a woman online, got her cell phone number and started sending her text messages, Lincoln Police Capt. David Beggs said. In one message, he allegedly wrote that he was interested in having sex with a 7-year-old boy.
She alerted police, who continued to text message with Harris under the guise of the woman, Beggs said. Police set up a meeting Monday between Harris and a fictitious 8-year-old boy. When Harris showed up, he was arrested.
