An 85-year-old Syracuse woman was killed in a collision Sunday afternoon in Unadilla.

Leola Mohlman was a passenger in a 1995 Buick Century driven by her husband, Willard Mohlman, 90, according to the Otoe County Sheriff’s Office.

Their vehicle was southbound on County Road 20 around 4 p.m. when it crossed the intersection with Nebraska 2, driving into the path of an eastbound 2002 Dodge Neon driven by Trisha Teater, 17, of Lincoln.

The Jaws of Life were used to free the victims from the wreckage. Leola Mohlman was flown to Lincoln in a medical helicopter.

Willard Mohlman was in fair condition Monday morning at BryanLGH Medical Center West.

Teater, who was wearing a seat belt, was treated and released. Authorities aren’t sure whether the Mohlmans were wearing seat belts.

Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to be involved in the accident.

" The Mohlmans are dear people who've been lifelong members of our church. Sad that this happened. I heard the chopper come in and fly back out, and we prayed for whomever it was at the time. Our sympathies are with Willard, and we're sorry the young woman was traumatized in this way, but glad her injuries were minor. Thank goodness she was in a seatbelt - Neons are quite small cars. "
