New Lincoln bank opens in temporary quarters
By The Lincoln Journal Star
Lincoln’s newest bank opened its doors to business Monday and its president said a full range of products and services should be available by the end of the week.
The Community Bank of Lincoln is open at a temporary location, 3801 Union Drive, Suite 200. A permanent location, at 6000 Village Drive is under construction and is expected to be ready for business in April.
Bank President Mary Gerdes revealed the plans for the new bank in September and more recently received approval from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and from the federal Office of Thrift Supervision.
The bank expects to serve small and medium-sized businesses and local residents, offering a range of loan and deposit products.
It also will hold fast to its name, with no branching into other communities, Gerdes has said. Staff, directors and loan decisions will be locally based.
Gerdes said she expects to have the bank’s Web site, www.bankoflincoln.com, operational soon as well.
The last bank to start up in Lincoln that wasn’t from another institution or to serve other banks was West Gate Bank in 1968, according to FDIC records and Journal Star archives.
