Sophomore junior college transfer Kenny Jordan won the 133-pound class at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Saturday to finish as the highest-placing Nebraska wrestler in the tournament.
The Huskers finished fourth in the team standings for the second straight year. Michigan won the team title with 127 points. Missouri was second (127), followed by Ohio State (121) and NU (112.5).
Jordan dominated T.J. Dillashaw of Cal State Fullerton 7-0 in the finals after squeaking past Ohio State’s Reece Humphrey 7-6 in the semifinal round earlier in the day. Jordan won the national junior college championship last year.
Two other Huskers — Jordan Burroughs (149) and Brandon Browne (174) — finished third.
Burroughs avenged a quarterfinal loss to Lance Palmer of Ohio State on Friday with a 2-1 sudden-victory win against Palmer in the third-place match.
Browne, from Plattsmouth, defeated Phil Moricone of Edinboro, Pa., 6-4 in his third-place match.
NU’s Stephen Dwyer finished fifth at 165 pounds and Vince Jones was sixth at 184.
NU’s top-ranked Paul Donahoe, the defending 125-pound national champion, did not wrestle Saturday, taking three injury default losses after winning a quarterfinal match Friday night. Tervel Dlagnev of Nebraska-Kearney, the top-ranked heavyweight in Division II, also took three injury default losses on Saturday.
