Connie Yori has ventured back to the Great White North and to the state where people brag that things are bigger to snare the latest recruits for her Nebraska women’s basketball program.

On Thursday, Yori announced the signing of Harleen Sidhu, a 6-foot-1 forward from Surrey, British Columbia, and Layne Reeves, a 5-11 guard from Lubbock, Texas.

One of the top young players in Canada, Sidhu will join former British Columbia Provincial Team member Kaitlyn Burke on NU’s roster next season. She’ll also be the third Canadian in the past five years to join the Huskers, following in the footsteps of Canadian Senior National Team member Chelsea Aubry.

Sidhu was invited to attend the National Elite Development Academy in Ontario and to tryout for the Canadian National Team. She averaged 31 points, six rebounds and three assists per game as a junior, but missed much of the season with an injury.

Reeves earned first-team all-state recognition at Trinity Christian (which is in Texas’ private large school division). In her three seasons, Trinity has a combined 96-19 record.

“Harleen is a really versatile and consistent player, and Layne is a great shooter from the outside,” Yori said. “I think they both have the ability to help us next year and into the future of our program. Along with their abilities on the court, both of them are outstanding students and are going to be great representatives for our program because of their strong characters.”
