Police are investigating several overnight burglaries.

A man living in the 4700 block of Old Cheney Road left his apartment around 9:20 p.m. Monday to do laundry, said Lincoln Police Chief Tom Casady.

When the man returned at 9:58 p.m., he discovered someone had pried open a west window to get inside, Casady said.

Reported missing were a Samsung high-definition television, a Remington 12-gauge pump shotgun, a Canon digital camera, a Seiko watch, a gold chain and a wine bottle filled with change, for a total value of $4,040, Casady said.

A neighbor reportedly saw three men leaving the apartment, one of whom was carrying a television, Casady said.

Police were dispatched to a burglary at Cycle Works, 720 N. 27th St., at 12:08 a.m. Tuesday.

Someone broke out the glass in the main door and took a black Trek Top Fuel 69er mountain bike valued at $2,640 from right inside the front door, Casady said. Damage to the door was $300.

A short while later, a man used a hammer to break out a window at OfficeMax, 3120 Pine Lake Road.

An assistant manager was still inside the store working when he heard the front window break at about 12:23 a.m., Casady said.

The manager saw a man standing in the customer service area trying to cut the wire tethers to three digital cameras, Casady said.

The manager approached the man and said, “May I help you?” Casady said.

The man cutting the wires said, “Don’t come any closer, I’m serious,” and continued cutting, Casady said.

The burglar ran from the store southbound on foot with three cameras valued at a total of $1,127, Casady said. He left the hammer at the scene.

" managers shouldn't lose their lives by trying to save material things that are insured. Never know if the burglar has a gun. "

" I would guess its more cost effective for the company to replace 3 cameras and a door than to pay out the life insurance on the manager. "

" Neighbors saw someone carrying a tv at 9:58pm.and didn't question or call? That's the problem with not knowing our neighbors. "

" people don't want to call the police. They don't want to get involved. They would have to be a witness. And some people don't have to ca hones to do something like that. "

" It never said they saw them carrying the TV at 9:58. It said that the man discovered the break in at that time. In any case it was an apartment complex where people move in and out every day. Believe it or not, many are still moving their stuff after dark. "

" The manager probably makes $9.00 a hour if lucky, and why on earth would he confront a burglar? I'd like to see what you would do it this same sititutation? Why should he risk his life over something material? "

" More to the point, why would you confront a potentially armed felon when your corporate policy prohibits carrying of any weapons (including mace or a stun gun) by any employee, and says you should give the criminal anything they want, whenever they want? "
