What once seemed Iowa’s is now Nebraska’s. On Friday, the Huskers received their 23rd known oral commitment  for the 2008 recruiting class.

Riley Reiff, a 6-foot-6, 240-pound defensive end from Parkston, S.D., committed to Iowa in mid-April, only to later reconsider his options.

A Sept. 15 visit to Lincoln to see the hoopla that surrounded Nebraska’s game with Southern Cal helped Reiff turn his favor toward the Huskers.

“Pretty crazy,” he said. “It had a big impact on me.”

Reiff said Husker defensive coordinator Kevin Cosgrove was the main coach who recruited him.

In the previous two seasons, Reiff racked up 131 tackles and 19 sacks. Those numbers helped earn him three-star status on Rivals.com and Scout.com. Rivals ranks him 28th in the country among strongside defensive ends.

He can bench press 300 pounds and squat 400. He runs 40 yards in about 4.8 seconds.

Reiff is also a wrestler, and has compiled a 112-1 record while becoming a three-time state champion.

“My strength is that I never give up,” he said. “I always go 100 percent.”
