Autopsy scheduled for inmate
By the Lincoln Journal Star
An autopsy will be performed in Omaha on Friday on a man who died Wednesday after a Sept. 17 incident at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution left him with a broken neck.
Reko Mitchell, 38, died Wednesday night after his family elected to take him off life support.
The autopsy will be performed at the Douglas County Health Center, and a fellow prisoner may be charged in Mitchell's death soon afterward.
Mitchell and another inmate were in the gymnasium bathroom at about 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 17. There was an altercation, according to Tecumseh Warden Fred Britten, and Mitchell was found by prison staff on the floor soon after.
Charges against the inmate, who has not been named, could be filed following the autopsy results, Johnson County Attorney Julie Smith-Hogancamp said Thursday. She said no paperwork had been filed in court regarding Mitchell's death.
