A Lincoln man was electrocuted Thursday while working on a power line project near Atchison, Kan.

Thad Hellbusch, 34, was pronounced dead at a local hospital, said Atchison County Sheriff John Calhoon.

Hellbusch was part of a crew that was putting up power poles about 4 miles west of Atchison, said the sheriff. Atchison County is in northeast Kansas.

Although no official cause of death is listed yet, Calhoon said his office suspects Hellbusch was electrocuted.

“It was an accident,” the sheriff said.  The incident happened about 1:30 p.m.

An autopsy was performed Friday but results of lab and toxicology tests won’t be available for several weeks, Calhoon said.

Hellbusch was employed by R&S Electric in St. Joseph, Mo., the sheriff said.

Hellbusch was a former employee of Norris Public Power District in Beatrice.

" Thad was an Angel put here to touch so many lives. One can only remember all the smiles he put on our faces. Thad lived his short time here on earth to the fullest and anyone who got a chance to know him and spend time with him knows what a wonder giving man he was and how much he loved his family and friends. We are all blessed to have known him and will all be missing him. We all loved you Thad. Prayers to all of your family and friends. "
