Chapin Enterprises LLC on Tuesday switched some of the station formats of its Lincoln properties.

The Top 40 format at 102.7 KFRX-FM has moved to 106.3 FM, and KLMY-FM has moved its adult contemporary programming to 102.7 FM.

According to a news release, Richard Chapin anticipates more changes in the Lincoln radio market to take place in early October.

KRKR-FM, known as 95 Rock, will change its call letters and format. The classic rock programming currently playing on 95 Rock will transfer to KTGL-FM, The Eagle 92.9.

" Isn't this just the equivalence of polishing a turd or rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic? Local radio has sucked for a number of years. The DJ's love to listen to themselves talk and you hear the same 50 songs over and over and over again. Thankfully I put a CD player in my car, now I don't have to listen to them drone on and on and on..... "

" A CD player in your car? It didn't come with one? Why not just plug your ipod into the car? You can get a ipod shuffle for $39 refurb or even $79 new online or at walmart/best buy. Tape adapter is $3 at meritline since you must have a cassette tape player. Why waste money BUYING a CD player is beyond me. All new cars have a line in jack for plugging in your ipod anyway. "

" "Polishing a turd" perfect analogy! Radio blows all across the board, unless you have satelite radio. "

" The CD player wasn't really the issue. Perhaps his car didn't come with one, or he prefers CD's to iPod. Whatever the case, it has nothing to do with the article. I do agree that local radio isn't much good. They'll have to do more than shuffling stations to improve upon that, otherwise many listeners will find alternative music choices and local radio will disappear. "

" Ipod? Cassette adapter? Are you from the 1860s? LOL. Load up your Mem Stick or portable HD and plug it into the deck. "

" some of us cant afford a NEW car so we merely have tape decks or have to buy a CD player to be installed. and if we dont have the money to buy a new car we surely dont have the money to buy an IPOD. so what, they changed around some of the radio stations, big deal people! if you want me to come and help you reset your presets on your radio, just let me know. I can spare 60 seconds to help you out. "

" A person may "waste" money to buy a CD player if they have an older model car and cannot afford to "waste" money buying a newer car just because it has a CD player and an IPod hook-up. Last time I did the math, a CD player cost less than a car. "

" The point John is trying to make (regardless of his audio equipment) is that all our radio stations in Lincoln stink. Unless you like RAP or At Work Crap. Thank heavens that we not only have 'other listening' devices to choose from, that we have other radio stations that we can pick up from Omaha! "

" Maybe you all who don't like local radio should check out KZUM 89.3 FM the community station...it's also the sound behind channel 10 cable here in Lincoln. No standard songs and plenty of variety. "

R B Tron wrote on September 20, 2007 10:23 am:
" Here we go again with the KZUM reference. Hmm lets see. my neighbor listens to KZUM , along with my brother and my mechanic. That makes 3 people . A kind estimate. "

" What is the deal with Lincoln rearranging radio stations? i remember when KFRX was 103 and then changed to 102.7 maybe 15-20 yrs ago. it's the same people playing the same stuff. why change station numbers? Are they not KFRX anymore, they haven't said it on the radio at all. I have no problem with this station, they do play a lot of repeats, but that's when you listen to what you want in your vehicle. "

" Yup - Local Radio sucks. There are only a few formats around, so you're SOL if you want something other than the crap that's offered. I go the CD route frequently too. Once upon a time, you could hear other than "Top 50" or oldies or country on the radio, but those days are long gone. Thank God for internet radio at work. "

shad bailey wrote on September 20, 2007 11:46 pm:
" The only Lincoln station worth while is 105.3 KLNC they play back to back songs and give traffic and weather reports in the morning. You can listen all day and not hear a repeat and talk about variety they play all the songs that I grew up with from Johnny Cash to Foghat and everything in between. KZUM?? they are aweful they play all sorts of weird stuff like Polka and they always are talking and dont have any traffic or weather reports etc. I also like power 106.9 from Omaha but you can oonly pick it up in North Lincoln. 107.3 is a little better these days but I say 105.3 beats them all. "

" So then will I find the Rock of the 80's and more that is currently playing on 92.9 on 95.1? I will be seriously bummed if we lose the format that is playing on 92.9. It may be old 80's hair bands but at least they recognized that the Late 60's and 70's rock was played out and they needed to move to a new decade. "

" KFRX is one of the better Top40 stations in the entire country...so to say that local radio is crap is quite inaccurate, at least if you include KFRX is that converstation. Most Nebraskans are country folk, and rarely venture 20 miles away from there homes...therefor, what do they know anyway? Dwight Yokam rocks! "

" I think KFRX is bad because Rap and Rock dont mix. I like power 106.9 and 98.1 in Omaha. Mixing the two is crazy. I wish power 106.9 had a better signal in Lincoln.. that would be the end of KFRX. "

luke wrote on September 22, 2007 7:34 pm:
" Wow lincoln radio is alot worse than in other cities becasue the local stations do not update and change their formats. Lincoln's radio stations are set up so they do not have to heavly compeate and update their music. The major stations all have niches and enough listerns that they coexist. Alot of people just listen to Omaha. Why would I want to listen to an local station that has had the same or simliar DJ's, music, ads for more than five years. I can just listen to my ipod and listen to what I want. "

luke wrote on September 22, 2007 7:40 pm:
" The other reason that Lincoln radio is not the best is that all the stations in Lincoln are similar, they are sucessfull. In Omaha and most cities the best stations happen becasue the other staions do really poorly or are failing. Lincoln has the same problem with TV stations. "

" Why someone can't get over that someone would put a CD player in their car instead of buying a new car kind of blew my mind. I wonder if you are some sort of trustafarian or something. The other point is, I can't imagine listening to those stations in the first place. NPR, KRNU, and KZUM are all I ever hear. We do listen to CDs and then at work, I do that free online Pandora radio where you can make a station based around a certain song or artist that you like. Technology makes things like Top 40 radio so unnecessary. "

" Regardless of whether or not radio is good in this town --I would like to know why they would be doing this and how can it possibly help ratings to move everything around and call it something different. It just seems like they are confusing listeners by taking stations that have been around for 20 years moving them and calling them something new. Former loyal listeners will probably just turn off the radio rather than reset the stations in their cars. "

What do you want? wrote on September 25, 2007 4:03 pm:
" I hear/read about a lot of people whining about Lincoln radio. What is it that you want in radio? Lincoln has just about every format. Lincoln radio changes as much as any other market. People are also upset about hearing the same song over and over. Don't blame radio stations, blame the band/artists marketing department! You think Daughtry gets played heavily only in Lincoln? Don't be so niave. Lastly, arguements are being made by those that admit they don't listen to radio. It's like reviewing a movie you've never seen. It's understandable if you don't like something, but lets back these opinions with some fact. saying radio is junk and leaving it at that does nothing but show you don't know anything about the topic at hand. "

Bob wrote on September 25, 2007 8:44 pm:
" A view from the inside - The stations have been moved because the 102.7 frequency and the 95.1 frequency are about to be moved to Omaha and become Omaha radio stations. You heard it here first! "

" Since deregulation of the radio industry music of all types has gone downhill. It's all uninspired "corporate music" played by individuals of limited intelligence and ability. I have talked to a decent number of kids under the age of 25 and many of them prefer to listen to the classic music from the early 80's and previous, rather than listen to the crap that spews from our radio stations now. And talk radio? Some of it's pretty good, but most talk show hosts, especially local talk show, are so limited in their ability to speak beyond cliche`s and various talking points, if not outright lying, that you wonder how they can look themselves in the mirror each morning. Yeah, it's pretty much like polishing a turd. "

According to people who post on this site, traffic in Lincoln sucks, work opportunities suck, the restaurants suck, no one does anything about business, and now the radio and TV stations suck. Yet 250,000 people still live here. Why? If everything sucks, why are you here? Grow the bleep up. "

" Well, in reading the comments on this page, I realize that most people have no clue what they are talking about when it comes to radio. I have been in radio since high school. and am now a program director at a radio station in Northern Indiana. Here's the down low on radio: It's all about ratings, market research music, and advertising dollars. Variety in radio is gone, and when you give the listener the chance to request something, or be heard, they ask for the same thing that's in the station's rotation. Top 40 radio stations like KFRX are probably playing 250 active titles at any given time, and the songs that are in the top 40 according to Billboard or whoever, will get 90 spins a week. For those of you who listen to your cd's and ipod's, how much of that is the same stuff on at least on or more of the radio stations in Lincoln?? People also think that if you don't play what's on there mix cd in the order on the disc, that that station sucks. Almost all radio, whether it's Satellite, internet, or otherwise is formatted in some way or another. Not all of it, but 99% of it. Just food for thought from a guy that's in the radio business. "
