Horse, riders thrown in accident near Firth
By the Lincoln Journal Star
A horse and its riders were thrown Thursday night when a car crested to the top of a small hill about six miles southeast of Firth and saw them riding on the road.
Charlotte Vieth and her 7-year-old son, Joseph, were taken to the hospital for minor injuries after they and the horse they were riding were thrown over Fredrick Boesiger’s ‘87 Oldsmobile Cutlass, Chief Deputy Lancaster County Sheriff Bill Jarrett said.
He said Boesiger of Firth had been driving west on Pella Road at about 9 p.m. when he came over a small hill to see them on the horse coming toward him on the road. They’d been nearing their home. The woman’s daughter, 15-year-old Tristyn, was walking a dog near the shoulder of the other lane.
Jarrett said Boesiger swerved to try to avoid a collision with the horse and the pedestrian, but the horse moved toward the car and was hit, throwing the horse and Veith and her young son over the car.
The 15-year-old horse had severe injuries and was shot.
Deputies issued no citations.
