A metal worker helping build a Hy-Vee at 84th and Holdrege streets fell to his death Saturday.

Randy A. Fryar, 38, of Papillion was 30 to 35 feet in the air and had taken off his safety restraints to move when he fell, Lincoln Police Capt. David Beggs said.

Work continued after the incident, said Dan Hill, safety officer for Moen Steel Erection, who will investigate the accident. Beggs said Fryar’s brother was on the job site and saw the fall.

Driver’s condition critical after spill on North 14th

A motorcycle driver was in critical condition at BryanLGH Medical Center West  Sunday after a crash on North 14th Street near Rock Creek Road.

Thomas E. Burnham of Murdock was going north on 14th Street just after 2 p.m. when his bike went down, Lancaster County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tom Brookhouser said.

A fellow rider who was behind Burnham told deputies he saw the motorcycle shaking before the accident.

Brookhouser said Burnham, 63, who was wearing a helmet, had some trauma to the left side of his body but nothing that appeared to be life threatening. Burnham was conscious and talking with deputies shortly after the accident.

Woman wakes to find undressed stranger

A Raymond woman awoke early Saturday to find a stranger sleeping on a couch in her living room.

Sean D. Maynard, a 19-year-old from Valparaiso, had driven his car into a ditch nearby, walked to the house and made himself comfortable, Lancaster County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tom Brookhouser said. That comfort allegedly included getting undressed and grabbing a soda from the kitchen.

The woman called deputies, who said they found a baggie of marijuana in a pocket of Maynard’s jeans. Maynard also left a cigarette  burn in the carpet, causing about $300 damage, according to reports.

Maynard was cited for first-degree trespassing, possession of marijuana and driving under suspension.

" Falls are the #2 cause of accidental death in the USA (auto accidents are #1, by a big margin, causing 3x as many deaths as do falls). "

" Work continued that day after that man fell to his death? Geez, you would think they would at least get the rest of the day off to recover from that traumatizing situation. "

" I don't think work continued for long - we were in that area around 12:30, and it didn't appear that there was anyone on the worksite.... "

" Citizens of Raymond: Lock your freakin' doors already! Trespassing, not breaking and entering. Next time it might be some knife wielding psycho and not a tired stoner. "

" We live right next to that new hy-vee and we are pretty excited to have a major store like this in our area. So our prayers go out to this man's family and friends and the work he did put in at this new hy-vee is DEFINATELY appreciated. RIP "

" I knew Randy and worked with him just last Friday. He was a good man and a professional.I wish he had followed procedures and kept himself tied off. In our industry these mandatory rules are meant to protect, but it's up to the individualto comply at all times. The worker carries two lanyards, so that at least one is always connected. I believe he thought he was. This loss has saddened me and my condolences goes out to his Family. "

" I could not agree more. There is no reason that work should have continued after such a tragic accident. Randy should have been tied off at all times, however, only those there know the real circumstances. I have worked in this line of work before and there is no reason that the job site should have continued work that day after such a terrible tragedy, nor that week, in his memory as far as I am concerned. Randy was a great father and will be greatly missed. Please keep Randy & his family in your prayers. "
