Police are asking Lincoln residents to be on the lookout for two vehicles stolen early Thursday from a car lot.

At around 2 a.m., officers discovered the rear door of Priced Rite Auto Sales, 901 N. 48th St., had been broken and that someone had taken three sets of car keys and three cars — a silver Oldsmobile Aurora, a two-door, tan Chevy Blazer and a silver Pontiac Grand Prix, Capt. Jim Thoms said.

He said the Aurora was found abandoned on 29th Street, between Orchard and Dudley. But Thursday morning police still were looking for the Blazer and Grand Prix, which had very little fuel and had the price written in yellow marker on the windshield.

Thoms said the two probably have been abandoned somewhere in Lincoln.

Man breaks window to steal $5.69 bottle of gin

Someone called police early Thursday after seeing a man break a convenience store window to steal a bottle of gin.

Capt. Jim Thoms said they were looking for a man who broke the window at Kabredlo’s, 3291 Holdrege St., reached in and stole a bottle of Barton gin.

The man headed west in the alley south of the store.

The loss was valued at $5.69.

" Barton gin? If you're going to go to all the trouble of breaking into a convenience store why not steal a good brand? Why steal something that comes in a plastic bottle? "

" Who attempts theft to steal a bottle of Barton...really. "

" Maybe he stole the Barton to clean up some old auto parts or something like that. No one drinks that swill, do they? In any case, the location - 33rd & Holdredge - speaks volumes. "

" I don't think it matters what kind of gin it is to an alcoholic. The guy is probably a transient that can't live without it. "

" you are very right when you talk about 33rd/Holdrege. I recently moved out of that very area due to the crime rate. I can't begin to count the number of gun shots, drug deals, thefts, fights, etc that I witnessed in that very alley. The police did what they could to patrol that area, it was not unlikely to see them parked right behind my car... just watching. And now the mayor wants to cut law enforcement... well good luck - because these types of crime filled neighborhoods will only multiply with less police on the streets. "
