OMAHA — A 27-year-old Papillion woman charged with motor vehicle homicide waived her preliminary hearing on Monday and is expected to stand trial July 27.

Heather Henning is accused in connection with an accident that killed an off-duty Douglas County sheriff’s deputy.

Shad Nicks, 36, of Omaha, was riding his motorcycle on U.S. Highway 6 when he was struck nearly head-on by an Oldsmobile driven by Henning, the Nebraska State Patrol said.

Nicks died at the hospital. Henning was treated and released. She was then arrested on charges of felony motor vehicle homicide and driving while intoxicated, the patrol said.

Henning is free on bond while waiting for the trial.
