Nebraska I-back Marlon Lucky’s condition continues to improve, according to a prepared statement from his family released Tuesday.

Lucky, who was found unconscious Sunday at his apartment in Lincoln and rushed to Bryan LGH Medical Center West, has been removed from the intensive care unit and his condition has been upgraded to fair, the statement said.

“We would like to make it clear that Marlon’s medical emergency did not come about as a result of the use of alcohol or any illicit drugs,” the statement said. “We are very appreciative of the thoughts and prayers for Marlon during this time.”

According to Deputy Fire Chief Pat Borer, fire and rescue units were sent to Lucky’s apartment at 8 p.m. Sunday to respond to an urgent medical emergency. The player was transported to the hospital, where he remained Tuesday.

A friend of Lucky, who wished to remain anonymous, said the player on Tuesday was eating a hamburger and chips and joking with a teammate visiting the hospital.

Nebraska coach Bill Callahan released the following statement:

“I have spent time with both Marlon and his family at the hospital over the past couple days. Marlon knows that he has the full support of our football team, coaches and entire athletic department. We want to thank everyone for respecting the privacy of Marlon and his family.”

One of the most heralded Nebraska recruits in history, Lucky rushed for 728 yards and had 383 receiving yards as a sophomore this past season.
