NU loses another football recruit
BY STEVEN M. SIPPLE / Lincoln Journal Star
Nebraska has lost a second 2007 football recruit, apparently because of academic issues.
Two major recruiting Web sites — Scout.com and Rivals.com — have dropped defensive end Patrick Grant from Nebraska’s unofficial list of 2007 verbal commitments, citing academics as the reason.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Grant, rated as a three-star player on a scale of five, made 65 tackles this season, including 16 sacks, for Boyd Anderson High School in Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.
Wallace Franklin, a fleet wideout from Butler County (Kan.) Community College, also won’t be part of the Huskers’ class of 2007 because of academics, Butler coach Troy Morrell said last week. Without Grant and Franklin, the class apparently stands at 29. Signing date is Feb. 7.
