School officials cancel classes after threat

BRAINARD – East Butler Public School officials canceled classes Wednesday after a bomb threat was found in a school bathroom.
The Butler County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
Gerry Reinsch, secondary principal for grades 7-12, said the threat, found Tuesday morning, indicated a bomb would go off there Wednesday at 12:30 p.m.
Although he feels the threat is most likely a hoax, Reinsch said this was the first time the school had ever received such a specific threat.
“We took the advice of the county sheriff — when you have specifics like that, he recommended (cancelling classes) would probably be the safest thing,” Reinsch said.
A bomb-sniffing dog might be brought to the school Wednesday morning, he said.
The school will make up the day, probably at the end of the year, Reinsch said.
“Kids need to know if they’re going to do this, we’re going to make the day up,” he said. “Wednesday was a 1:30 dismissal, but now we’re going to go a full day probably.”
