President Bush will make his Nebraska pitch for Adrian Smith and other Republican candidates during a Sunday appearance at the Heartland Events Center in Grand Island.

The event is scheduled to begin at 3:10 p.m.

Tickets to the speech are being distributed through Republican state headquarters in Lincoln.  The 6,000-seat arena is located at Fonner Park off Interstate 80 at Exit 314 (the Locust Street exit).

Bush will fly to Nebraska from his ranch in Crawford, Texas, then address a Kansas Republican rally in Topeka before returning to the ranch.

The Nebraska stop is included among a series of presidential campaign events in Missouri, Iowa, Colorado, Kansas, Florida, Arkansas and Texas.

“The president is helping Republican candidates so we can keep taxes low and the economy growing,” White House spokesman Alex Conant said Thursday.

“He looks forward to helping Nebraska Republicans turn out the vote.”

The tight 3rd District House battle between Smith and Democratic nominee Scott Kleeb is the catalyst for Bush’s trip to Nebraska.  His stop in Grand Island takes him to the largest city in the western and central Nebraska district.

As Kleeb and Smith campaigned Thursday, late money continued to flow into the race, mostly to fund TV advertising.

Latest reports filed with the Federal Election Commission included $118,000 from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, $55,000 from the Nebraska Democratic Party and $93,000 from the National Republican Congressional Committee.

Kleeb campaigned Thursday in Gibbon, Kearney and Broken Bow.  Smith was in York and Broken Bow.

" The republicans must be getting worried if they think they need Bush to campaign for Smith. Like that is gonna help. More like the "Kiss of Death". At least Smith and Bush are on the same page. Neither has accomplished a damn thing. "

" I know Scott Kleeb would like a ticket to go to this event. I wonder if the Repubs. will have enough class/guts to give him one. Haven't these guys figured out that Nebraskans vote for the candidate, not the party. I got a call (recorded of course) from Mike Johanns almost begging that I vote a straight party ticket......this is almost insulting. "

" So, Karl Rove's latest strategy is to parade a grossly unpopular president in those places where he believes the people will be so flattered by a celebrity visit that they'll forget everything they know and vote against their own interests and the good of the nation. As Thomas Friedman stated today, 'Everyone says that Karl Rove is a genius. Yeah, right. So are cigarette companies. They get you to buy cigarettes even though we know they cause cancer. . . Let Karl know that you think this is a critical election, because you know as a citizen that if the Bush team can behave with the level of deadly incompetence it has exhibited in Iraq — and then get away with it by holding on to the House and the Senate — it means our country has become a banana republic. It means our democracy is in tatters because it is so gerrymandered, so polluted by money, and so divided by professional political hacks that we can no longer hold the ruling party to account. It means we’re as stupid as Karl thinks we are.' Vote Kleeb for intelligence and change. Vote Moul for putting the rights and needs of the people ahead of the wants of corporations. The GOP has got to go. Send 'em home! "

" Yeah, like Grand Island is "western" Nebraska. It is time to seek the kind of checks and balances our political system requires to keep the "moral compass" from spining out of control by those who are drunk with power. When National Politics becomes the National Idol to be worshiped regardless its capacity to lie, cheat or steal for the rich, it is time to smash that Idol and seek some moral clarity and a vision of national and world leadership that offers a possible solution rather than compounding the problems of a world in chaos. "

" Someone should take him down 4th street and show him what broken borders are. 4th street in Grand Island can easily be confused for Guatemala. I hope this trip doesn't cost Grand Island as much as when Dick Cheney came to Lincoln. "

" Pretty sad when you have to come to the third district in Nebraska who normally votes 75% republican. "

" I can't believe the lack of respect for current commander in chief, the person we elected to give us the most enlightened leadership possible in these difficult times. Don't you people understand that the President has told us again and again that we are in a fight for our very survival as a nation and that to vote against him is to vote for the terrorists. Please go out and support the President and applaud his visionary his leadership in Iraq and the war on terror has been... Oh, and be sure and quiet that little boy's voice when he asks why the emperor is parading around with no clothes and yet none of the assembled townspeople seem to notice. All hail big brother! "

" Let's see one of you go out and try to run a country. So the guy has made mistakes. Haven't you? Once you've ran a country then you can post your harassment comments towards President Bush and the Republican Party. I think it's great that Adrian Smith still has RESPECT for our great President. "

Citizen wrote on November 3, 2006 2:05 pm:
" As an American I will hold my elected officials accountable, thank you. That is my responsibility. If I lived in a monarchy I'd take your advice and sit quietly, obediently knowing my place. But, 'Enough Already', our nation had a thing called the Revolution that made me a CITIZEN -- we're no longer SUBJECTS -- and as a citizen it is our duty to call out these cynical liars who have taken us down a ruinous, misguided course. The fact that Adrian Smith, Fortenberry, and others are blind followers means they would have made excellent subjects in a monarchy, but they're not great citizens; and, they're certainly not worthy of leadership in a democratic system. "

voice of reason wrote on November 3, 2006 2:31 pm:
" Is King George getting the taxpayer supported event center for free because it is an official visit, or will they call it a political event and make Adrian Smith pay for it? And for you that have gotten the Republican call, Scott Kleeb lives in Nebraska, has paid taxes in Nebraska, has voted in Nebraska, believes in male/female marriage, and is against abortion. Why hasn't the taped message talked about the Club for Growth influence when they bring up the "San Francisco" influence? When you watch the last few days television ads, determine the high road, and the road to no where. Attack ads are signs of desperation and defeat. Advertisements of gratitude, and promotion of one's beliefs are pure class. Why hasn't the GOP hasn't published the results of their poll taken in the last week or so? It would be interesting to see how many points he loses after President Bush stumps for him. "

Wm wrote on November 3, 2006 3:14 pm:
" Yeah, I've made mistakes. But you must have never watched Adrian Smith in in-action. Oops your right! Bush and Smith are very alike. Followed by all the rest of the sheep. "

On respect wrote on November 3, 2006 5:17 pm:
" I respect my president and elected leaders, however, I strongly disagree with most of his policies. I believe we should not send Mr. Smith to Washington as his credentials are below subpar. Nebraska cannot keep going towards the downward direction that it's been in. Nebraska needs to change that and I don't believe that Smith has the capability of helping Nebraska and its citizens in that direction. Kleeb is well-versed in Military diplomacy, he knows foreign leaders, he is well-spoken, intelligent, and articulate. "
