An Omaha man will be a part of MTV’s hit reality series “The Real World” when it premieres its 18th season Nov. 22.

Tyrie Ballard, 23, a 2001 Omaha Northwest graduate and former University of Nebraska-Lincoln student, will join six other 20-somethings on “The Real World: Denver.”

“I didn’t do anything I wouldn’t normally do,” Ballard joked in a recent phone interview to promote his appearance. “I never tried to impress anybody. It’s just me being me.”

"The Real World" is the longest-running reality series in TV history, debuting in 1992 in New York City.

Each season features seven young strangers living together in a new city. MTV rolls the camera 24/7 in order to witness their lives intersect.

Past seasons have taken place in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, London, Miami, Boston, Seattle, Hawaii, New Orleans, Chicago, Las Vegas, Paris, San Diego, Philadelphia, Austin and Key West.

Ballard is the fourth known person from Nebraska to participate in a reality show.

Lincoln’s Diane Ogden and Omaha’s John Carroll participated in the third and fourth “Survivors” (CBS), respectively, while Tina Barta of Crete appeared on MTV’s “Road Rules.”

“Real World” will be Ballard’s second reality show appearance. He was one of rock musician Tommy Lee’s fraternity brothers on NBC’s “Tommy Lee Goes to College.”

" I hope he is a normal guy. Tina did not represent people from Nebraska very well at all. She tried to act like a gangster. Best of luck to Tyrie! "

" seriously, these reality TV shows show middle aged adults doing nothing with their time and not contributing at all to society. if it were truly THE REAL WORLD, wouldn't they have a job, building income, paying debt, starting a family, and buying a house???!!!??? "

" How about paying back student loans...that is called a reality check! "

" I see the article states that he graduated from high school, but just that he was a student in college. "

" The show originally started as a way to show how different people living together went about achieving their dreams, which may or may not including building income, paying off debt, starting a family, and buying a house. It takes most people a good protionof their 20's to figure out what they wantto do with their lives so they aren't trapped for the rest of their lifes in a bad job, mortgage, or marriage. Unfortunately, this show deviated from its original roots and has devolved into a semi-reality soap opera. "

" I think it is great we have someone representing Nebraska again....I just hope he does a better job than Tina from "Road Rules" did. She was and still is a total embarrassment to our state! She seems to be all talk and not much walk, obviously not doing too much for herself still to this day! Good luck Tyrie, and talk us up!! "
