Bo Ruud, NU linebacker

The junior had Bret Meyer in his sights all game long and gave the Cyclone QB an early sign that he wasn’t going to match the 331-yard passing average he’d compiled in his first two games against NU. On the drive after the Huskers went up 14-7, Ruud made three straight tackles and stopped receiver R.J. Sumrall for a yard gain on third-and-2 to force a punt.

Corey McKeon, NU linebacker

McKeon was not NU’s leading tackler Saturday night — he had six to Bo Ruud’s nine — but he was in Bret Meyer’s yard all night. McKeon’s play set the tone for a strong defensive effort for the Huskers and a heck of a rebound from the KU scare.

Kevin Cosgrove, NU defensive coordinator

An impressive rebound after last week’s showing against Kansas. NU obviously was well-prepared for Bret Meyer, who had thrown for 662 yards total in his previous two games against NU. He struggled to get untracked this time, as NU blitzed effectively, covered well and showed discipline in containing Meyer’s scrambles. This was Blackshirt-esque.

Brandon Jackson, NU running back

This could just as easily gone to Cody Glenn, as both running backs helped Nebraska establish control. But Jackson gets the nod simply because it’s good to see the junior get his time to shine. Twenty-two carries for 116 yards is shining brightly.
