Police responded to separate reports of a shooting and a stabbing late Tuesday and early Wednesday.

In the shooting incident, there were no fatalities and nobody was shot, police said. In the other incident, a 21-year-old man who was stabbed does not have life-threatening injuries.

Police first responded to a disturbance involving a weapon at 508 S. 25th Street, Apt. 5, at 11:22 p.m. Tuesday. Upon arriving, they noticed a small-caliber bullet hole in the door. According to police, it appeared that people had tried to start a fight at the residence, then fired a shot. No arrests had been made as of early this morning.

The stabbing occurred at 4912 Cleveland St. about 2 a.m. Wednesday. A 21-year-old man said he was dropped off at a party at the residence and was approached by two males that accused him of assaulting them earlier.

They then stabbed him in the arm and back, he said, before he was able to fight back and escape. He was treated at BryanLGH East. Police had not made any arrests as of early Wednesday.

Storm causes damage in NW Nebraska

People are spending the first day of summer in northwest Nebraska assessing damage done during spring’s exit.

In Rushville, an early-evening storm Tuesday destroyed an elevator, ripped roofs off both a veterinarian’s clinic and packing house, damaged the golf course and tore the top off of a house outside of town.

Spike Jones, mayor of Rushville, said some people saw a tornado but that the National Weather Service reported there was not one.

“If it was a straight wind, it was a helluva one,” Jones said.
