2005-2006 top multi-sport athletes: girls

BROOKE DELANO

Bellevue West

VITAL STATISTICS: Height — 6-4. Year — junior. College — Getting Division I offers in both volleyball and basketball; is leaning strongly toward Nebraska volleyball.

Sports: Volleyball — middle blocker, earned first-team Super-State, played a major role in Bellevue West winning its third straight Class A title; 400 kills (.321 hitting efficiency) and 102 ace blocks; played state tournament with severely sprained ankle, still had 27 kills and 13 blocks in three matches. Basketball — only player in this school year named first-team Super-State in both volleyball and basketball; led Thunderbirds to Class A state semifinals, averaged 13.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and two blocked shots per game.

KIM FAIMON

Lawrence-Nelson

VITAL STATISTICS: Height — 5-5. Year — senior. College — Hastings, basketball.

Sports: Volleyball — D-1 all-stater as outside hitter/libero after being a setter her first three years; had 271 kills and 473 digs. Basketball — honorary captain of the D-1 all-state team, averaged 20 points and six rebounds, 7.7 steals and five assists per contest. Track — fourth in the high jump, seventh in the 800 and ran on Lawrence-Nelson’s 3,200 relay.

AMY GALLAGHER

Neligh-Oakdale

VITAL STATISTICS: Height — 5-10. Year — senior. College — Evansville, basketball.

Sports: Volleyball — C-2 first-team all-state honors by helping the Warriors get to the state semifinals; finished with 163 kills, 70 ace blocks and 250 digs. Basketball — Division I recruit and two-time all-state forward, averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds a game. Track — qualified for state in the long jump (finished seventh) and the 1,600 relay.

J.J. HALL

Exeter-Milligan

VITAL STATISTICS: Height — 5-8. Year — senior. College — Morningside, basketball.

Sports: Softball — catcher for Fillmore Central/Exeter-Milligan’s Class C state title, second-team Super-State and first-team all-state; hit .509 with 46 runs scored, 23 RBI, nine doubles, six triples, two homers and 29 stolen bases. Basketball — C-2 all-state guard averaged 17 points and four rebounds per game to help the Timberwolves to the semis. Track — fifth in the Class C 800 at state (2:23.11) and qualified in the 1,600; ran the first leg on 1,600 relay that took second.

KK HOUSER

Lincoln Southeast

VITAL STATISTICS: Height — 5-5. Year — freshman.

Sports: Softball — played shortstop, hit .318 with 38 runs, 22 RBI, one homer and 13 stolen bases. Basketball — drawing nationwide attention from Division I colleges with her quickness and shooting range; first-team all-city, second-team all-state and third-team Super-State, averaged 13.7 points per game and lead the Knights to the Class A state tournament. Track — a top hurdler, taking second at state in the 100 high hurdles and fourth in the 300 lows.

TaLISA KREJCI

Exeter-Milligan

VITAL STATISTICS: Height — 5-8. Year — senior. College — Concordia, basketball.

Sports: Volleyball — second-team all-state, paced the Timberwolves to the C-2 state tournament with 256 kills, 18 ace serves, 96 blocks and 106 digs. Basketball — honorable mention all-stater and four-year starter; averaged 12 points, four rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. Track — swept both Class C hurdle events at state, winning the 100 highs in :15.83 and the 300 lows in :46.44; ran on the 1,600 relay that took second.

HEATHER McKEON

Ravenna

VITAL STATISTICS: Height — 5-10. Year — senior. College — Hastings, basketball.

Sports: Volleyball — first-team C-2 all-state, served a state-high 141 aces to go along with 320 kills; had 23 kills in a five-game state-championship match loss to Grand Island Central Catholic. Basketball — honorary captain on C-2 all-state team, helped win state championship, averaged 18.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, and had 53 points in three state tournament games.

JASMINE MOSLEY

Bellevue East

VITAL STATISTICS: Height — 5-10. Year — senior. College — South Dakota, basketball and track.

Sports: Softball — first baseman was honorable mention all-state after hitting .380 with four doubles, six triples and 19 RBI. Basketball — helped the Chieftains to the Class A state title, earning second-team all-state and third-team Super-State; averaged 13 points and five rebounds per game. Track — moved into sixth on the state’s all-time shot put charts with a throw of 48-10, which was fourth nationally this season; injured a hamstring midway through the season, but still won the Class A title and all-class gold in the discus and finished second in the shot at state.

SAMANTHA MUSIL

Pawnee City

VITAL STATISTICS: Height — 5-11. Year — senior. College — Georgia Tech, track.

Sports: Volleyball — second-team D-1 all-state, had 212 kills, 56 ace serves, 92 ace blocks and 172 digs. Basketball — honorable mention all-state, averaged 14.7 points and 9.4 rebounds. Track — won third straight Class D discus title and second straight shot put gold medal at state; top discus effort of 157-2 earlier this season was a Class D state record and ranks seventh on this spring’s national charts; also runs the 400 and 800.

SAMANTHA SCHUETT

Millard West

VITAL STATISTICS: Height — 6-0. Year — senior. College — Creighton, basketball.

Sports: Softball — honorable mention all-state; hit .363 with eight doubles, two homers, 29 RBI and 30 runs scored; .971 fielding percentage at first base. Basketball — first-team Super-State honors for the second straight year, propelling the Wildcats to the Class A state semifinals; averaged 19 points and 10.2 rebounds along with 2.9 assists and 2.5 steals per game. Track — finished fifth in the shot put and third in the discus at state.

JAMIE TOOLEY

Columbus Scotus

VITAL STATISTICS: Height — 5-8. Year — senior. College — Nebraska-Omaha, volleyball.

Sports: Volleyball — all-around play carried Scotus to the C-1 state title; all-state; had 18 kills in the championship match against Lincoln Lutheran; finished the season with 298 kills, 237 digs, 53 ace serves and 73 assists. Basketball — leading scorer and honorable mention all-stater on 18-4 Scotus team. Track — won the Class B triple jump with a 37-6 leap and fourth in the long jump, qualified for state in the 200 and was part of Scotus’ 400 relay that finished fifth.

KELLI WEMHOFF

Humphrey St. Francis

VITAL STATISTICS: Height — 5-6. Year — senior. College — Nebraska-Kearney, volleyball.

Sports: Volleyball — first-team Class D-1 all-state outside hitter got the Flyers started on their trifecta (state titles in volleyball, basketball and track); led team with 250 kills, 251 digs and 35 ace serves. Basketball — first-team all-state; averaged 14.6 points and four rebounds per outing. Track — anchored victorious 400 and 1,600 relays, the latter breaking the Class D state record (4:05.23); fifth in the 100 and second in the 200.
