A nationally renowned lawyer who represents many of the families of Sept. 11 victims has given another sizeable donation to Nebraska Wesleyan University.

Harry Huge and his wife, Reba, donated $1 million to Wesleyan, Huge’s alma mater, last week. The money will fund as many as eight full-tuition scholarships annually for gifted students through the Huge Scholars Program.

Nebraska Wesleyan will honor the Huge’s gift, as well as earlier gifts and support by the Huges, by naming one its new student residences the Harry and Reba Huge House.

The naming ceremony will be at 4:30 p.m. today at the townhouse village, located near 55th Street and Madison Avenue in Lincoln.

Harry Huge graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan and then Georgetown University’s law school.

During the past quarter-century he’s been involved in some of the country’s most high-profile litigation. He served as an arbitrator in the tobacco settlement agreement and was named co-prosecutor in the German trials of the Hamburg terrorist cell.

He’s currently co-counsel representing some 4,000 family members of the victims of Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

He and his wife, Reba, live in Charleston, S.C.

“When I graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan in 1959 and headed off to Georgetown Law, I was really worried,” said Huge in a press release. “Would I be able to compete against all those graduates of elite eastern universities, the Ivy Leaguers and the like?

“What I discovered was that a Nebraska Wesleyan education absolutely prepared me not only to be competitive in law school, but successful in life.

“I want other bright young people to enjoy a similar discovery.”
