Lincoln will soon be getting another Holiday Inn Express.

Baymont Inn & Suites at 3939 N. 26th Street is in the process of converting to a Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites, said General Manager Sally Burroughs.

The name change is scheduled to take effect July 6, she said, although the hotel is already listed on the Holiday Inn Express Web site.

A building permit filed with the city last week lists $40,000 worth of interior and exterior renovations related to the change.

Besides the new name, there will be a few changes, Burroughs said, such as an upgraded breakfast bar and new queen beds to replace the double beds the hotel currently has. Otherwise, things will pretty much be the same, she said.

Still, “It’s going to be a lot better hotel, a lot nicer hotel,” Burroughs said.

She said the switch to the Holiday Inn franchise has been planned since the hotel was sold to a Fresno, Calif.-based company in October. The company also bought the Holiday Inn Express at 11th and Cornhusker in August.

According to property records, the company paid more than $2.3 million for the Baymont Inn & Suites and more than $3.1 million for the Holiday Inn Express.

The 67-room Baymont hotel opened in 1999. It will become the fourth Holiday Inn Express in Lincoln and the fifth Holiday Inn hotel in the city.

In addition to the Holiday Inn Express at 11th and Cornhusker, there is one at 1010 W. Bond near the Lincoln airport and one that recently opened at 88th and Nebraska 2. There is also the full-service Holiday Inn Downtown, one of the city’s largest hotels, at Ninth and P streets.
