Spring fashion: A lighter shade of pale for spring
BY KATHRYN CATES MOORE / Lincoln Journal Star
Who looks good in white? This spring, everybody. Don’t wait to get a tan or lose weight, just find something that’s bright white, light and crisp. It can be cropped pants, long Bermuda shorts, a light, lacy shirt or a tiered skirt. If it’s white, it works.
Even before Memorial Day. (Don’t listen to what your mother says about that rule).
Fashion experts are touting white as right. It is the one thing they seem to agree on — as well as the role of black teamed with, yes, white.
Spring fashion is traditionally refreshing and a time to shed a few layers of clothing, and this year is no exception.
What’s also being shed is some of the glitter of the last few seasons. A little less bling and cleaner lines seem to prevail.
No need to throw out the Bohemian tops that have been staples, however. Pair them with linen bermuda shorts. Designers are insistent that the longer short is this year’s cropped pants. We’ll see.
Notice, too, that the bubble skirt is on the list of high fashion essentials, but beware of looking like a bubble-shaped fashion victim with this one. If you must be bubbled, stick with a short, skinny topper.
In the meantime, buy more nude-colored underwear — it’s a must-have for wearing under white.

Spring must-haves
Knight Ridder Newspapers
A little white dress, a crisp white shirt — Suit up in all white or choose a perfect shirt, bag or shoes
Bermuda shorts (if they work for your figure) — Long, lean and dressed up with a matching jacket or chic blouse
Dresses — Softly romantic or crisply tailored, this is the season of the dress
Skinny jeans or leggings
A bubble skirt — Infuse a sense of whimsy into a season that craves a little fun.
Wedge heels or platforms — Chunky, clunky shoes and sandals that work to anchor spring’s ethereal looks.
Waistlines — Define it with wide belts, string ties and sashes.
Wooden embellishments or accessories, big chunky necklaces and bracelets.
Florals — Bold and graphic or sweet and girly, both are big warm-weather statements.
Summer hair do’s and don’ts
It’s spring. Time to cut, color and restyle your hair to start the new season.
Changing your hair can significantly affect the way others perceive you, according to Paul Cucinello, color specialist at the Christopher Stanley Salon in New York City. Here are hair trends he predicts for spring and summer:
* Volume, wave and curls. Straight hair is out. This spring and summer we will see the return of ’80s perms. Salons will rediscover the perm for easy summer styling with lots of volume. The “new perm” creates waves with less volume at the roots.
* Braids: Slicked-back hair with a long braid or undone for texture. Several braids placed in the hair before bed can be taken out to create interesting shapes and texture.
* Up do’s: Sex Kitten/Braids/Chignon. Plenty of height at the crown, with hair swept back into a bun or an after-the-beach ponytail.
* Classic Hollywood: Roller set styles with a side part, run through with a shine serum or brushed into a clean, neat ponytail.
*The Girl Next Door: Low side ponytail worn over the shoulder with the ends curled and brushed together to create a pig-tail look.
* Color: Soft, blended highlights in the three classic color categories; crazy colors are out and so are chunky highlights. Think Classic Hollywood or California surfer hair.
