It was enough to make Frosty blush — and one neighbor call the cops.

But Randall Hawk didn’t understand why police took the time to break up what he and friends sculpted with snow in their front yard, or why neighbors a block from Nebraska Wesleyan were so bothered.

“It was just kind of a joke,” the 21-year-old said, laughing. “We’re really artistic.”

Hawk said it started as a huge snowman that fell on its side.

“One thing led to another,” he said, “and we made a cannon.”

It didn’t last an hour.

The neighbor who called police described it as a “giant male member” right in the front yard.

Hawk was sleeping after a long night at his snow  removal job when he heard a knock on the door, but he didn’t answer.

Later, he found the note Officer G. Powell left behind:

“The police knocked down your ‘snowman.’ Please don’t build another.”

It turns out police took three calls about lewd snow creations — Hawk’s, an anatomically correct snowman near UNL’s East Campus, and a middle finger near 84th and Holdrege. Officers handled each call without writing tickets.

“It’s just like with anything,” said Officer Katherine Finnell. “If we get a call, we have to respond.”
