Lincoln Southwest and Lincoln Northeast, the only two Class A teams from Lincoln to finish with winning records this fall, will be in the same district for the 2006 and 2007 football seasons. The Nebraska School Activities Association released enrollment figures and district assignments on Wednesday. Southwest and Northeast landed in the A-2 District which includes Lincoln East, Lincoln High, Norfolk and Columbus. Those four teams combined for just seven wins last season.

The A-1 district includes 2005 playoff qualifiers Lincoln North Star, Lincoln Southeast, Grand Island and Kearney.

In Class A, district assignments are determined first by geography and then by enrollment. In other classes, the district assignments are based solely on geography.

Teams assigned to the same district are guaranteed to play each other in each of the next two seasons.

Other opponents will be determined by the NSAA based in part on recommendations from the schools.

Complete schedules for the 2006 and 2007 seasons will be announced on Feb. 2.

Class A membership is unchanged from recent years. Class B grew from 32 to 33 teams when Omaha Roncalli opted to remain in Class B despite an enrollment figure that would have allowed the Crimson Pride to play in Class C-1 the next two seasons.

Cozad moves from C-1 to B, forcing Hastings to shift to District 4 and Crete into a tough B-3 district including 2005 semifinalists Lincoln Pius X and Beatrice.

Five teams in Classes C-1 and C-2 swapped classifications with Bennington, Bridgeport, Southern Valley, Wisner-Pilger and Yutan growing in enrollment. Moving down were Aquinas, Creighton, Kearney Catholic, Southern and West Holt. Three former eight-man teams also joined the Class C-2 ranks, including perennial power Friend and multitime Class D-1 champion Howells.

Meanwhile, six schools opted to continue to play eight-man football despite being ineligible for post-season play: Concordia, Elkhorn Valley, Hartington, Omaha Brownell-Talbot, Wilcox-Hildreth and Winnebago.
