The Journal Star selects the 2005 Super-State softball team.

Melissa Negrete: Millard South, senior, Pitcher

Negrete was dominant in the circle for the Class A state champions. She went 28-4 with an 0.54 earned run average and 263 strikeouts. Negrete did not walk a batter in the final 108 innings she pitched and surrendered only seven extra-base hits all season. She pitched four shutouts in the postseason.

Tara Oltman: Beatrice, senior, Pitcher

Oltman, 29-4, broke or tied 12 state records in leading the Lady Orange to a Class B state runner-up finish. She had 25 shutouts, 10 no-hitters and five perfect games, including back-to-back perfect games. In one stretch, she struck out 20 straight batters and went 96 straight innings without an earned run. In addition, she hit .442 with nine doubles, four triples, four home runs and 20 RBI.

Kelly Sladek, Fillmore Central/Exeter-Milligan, senior, Pitcher

The athletic Exeter-Milligan product got it done with her right arm and her bat for the Class C champions. She was 25-1 pitching with a .20 ERA and 326 strikeouts (in 171 innings). She threw seven no-hitters. At the plate, Sladek had a .354 batting average with 28 RBI.

Chelsea Koch, Papillion-La Vista, senior, First base

The Monarchs’ top player on their Class A state runner-up squad, she came up with clutch hits all season. Koch hit .400 with 30 runs scored, 46 hits and 34 RBI. She also played some as catcher and outfield this season.

Kristi Meneely, Millard South, senior, Second base

Not only did Meneely break the Class A state record for home runs (8), two were extremely memorable shots. She uncorked a grand slam to break a scoreless tie in the fifth inning of Millard South’s win over Papillion-La Vista in the district finals. In the finals at state, Meneely hit a three-run homer to put the Patriots in control early. She hit .364 for the season with 11 doubles and one triple.

Kelli Linke, Lincoln Northeast, junior, Third base/Pitcher

Linke should be one of the top returning players in 2006. She hit .437 with 59 hits, 35 runs scored, 37 RBI and 11 doubles. Linke, who shared pitching duties with Kylee Dart, was 19-4 with a 1.52 ERA.

Julie Krejci, Millard South, senior, Catcher

Krejci was a factor both offensively and defensively as only 13 runners were able to steal on the Patriots this season with eight being thrown out. She hit a team-leading .389 with 22 RBI, nine doubles and one triple.

Alissa Larsen, Lincoln Northeast, senior, Outfield

Another key ingredient in the Rockets’ potent offense this season. Larsen hit .386 with 54 hits, 53 runs scored and 27 stolen bases.

Donnette “Bubba” Martinez, Papillion-La Vista South, junior, Outfield

Martinez did not commit an error this season and was sterling with the bat as well, leading the Titans to a third-place finish at the Class A state tournament. She hit .407 with 20 runs scored.

Michelle Graner, Omaha Burke, senior, Outfield/Infield

Graner primarily played shortstop, but she also has the ability to play in the outfield. She hit .439 with 40 hits, 33 runs scored, 17 RBI and three homers.

Sara Loeffelholz, Omaha Marian, senior, Utility

The shortstop swung one of the most productive bats in the state and has the statistics to prove it. She hit .509 with 49 RBI, 26 runs scored, 10 doubles, 11 triples and five homers.

Shannon Pivovar, Ralston, senior, Utility

Pivovar missed almost her entire junior season because of knee surgery, but returned this fall to the form that earned her Super-State honors as a sophomore. She hit .468, drove in 22 runs and recorded 14 doubles, three triples and two homers. She had a .987 fielding percentage at shortstop with just one error in 78 chances.

Lindsey Slocum, Omaha Marian, senior, Utility

Slocum was a standout pitcher with a 24-11 record, a 0.66 ERA and 311 strikeouts. She quite often helped her own cause by hitting .400 with five doubles, four triples and a home run.
