A Lincoln man who became critically ill while in working a Hallam house that filled with carbon monoxide last week is expected to recover. Renaldo Alvarez, 38, was listed in fair condition Monday at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.

The other man working in the house, 25-year-old Hermin Nahun Duran Alvarez of Lincoln, was pronounced dead at the house at 345 Walnut St.

He died of carbon monoxide poisoning. The men were not related.

They were laying carpet Dec. 30 when carbon monoxide from a gas-powered generator filled the house, authorities have said.

No windows in the house were open. A neighbor found the men when he looked inside the house after he noticed a van with its back doors open at 10:30 at night, which was unusual.
