"War is HELLiburton."

"Nobody died when Clinton lied."

"What would Honest Abe make of Tricky Dick?"

Dick Cheney wasn't a popular guy among those carrying these posters on the Capitol steps Wednesday evening.

The statue of Abraham Lincoln peered down to a black sign emblazoned with "Impeach Cheney."

Nebraskans for Peace sponsored the rally urging the action against the vice president, who is scheduled to visit Lincoln on June 18 for a fund-raising breakfast for GOP congressional candidate Jeff Fortenberry.

Protesters plan to meet at the corner of 12th and Q streets at 7 that morning.

Wednesday's rally wasn't so much about starting a crusade. Rather, it was a way to show people that impeachment isn't a joke, said Mark Vasina, president of Nebraskans for Peace.

"It's a really essential tool we should be using," he said.

Other speakers included Michael Kelly, a Creighton University School of Law assistant professor and author, and Native activist Frank LaMere.

Amy Turek was among the roughly 50 people who gathered to hear them speak in opposition to Cheney and actions of the Bush administration.

She stood quietly, an American flag wrapped around her shoulders.

Instead of stars, the flag displayed corporate logos including those of Pepsi, IBM and Nike.

"We're not fighting the war for democracy," she said after the rally. "We're fighting it for profit-making corporations."

Turek, of Lincoln, meant to add Halliburton - the oil firm formerly headed by the Lincoln-born Cheney - to the logos, but didn't get it done in time. That's OK, though, she said.

"The message is the same."
