Brent Best has made multiple trips to Lincoln with his rocking Texas combo, Slobberbone. Martin Zellar has been through the Capital City several times, either with his brilliant late '80s/early '90s Minnesota band The Gear Daddies or with Martin Zellar and the Hardways, the group he has led since the mid-'90s.

Both superb rock 'n' roll songwriters now living in Texas, Best and Zellar are teaming up for a brief acoustic tour that will bring them to Duffy's Tavern Tuesday night for what could very likely be one of the best shows of the year.

I don't have a clue as to what either will be playing. But I'm guessing the show will be made up of stripped-down versions of some of the favorites from their bands -just don't expect to hear Zellar do "Zamboni" - along with some little-heard material written for a singer-songwriter format.

Seeing either of these guys do a solo show would be great. They're both engaging, witty and charismatic performers. Together, this is a don't-miss opportunity to experience the work of a pair of very talented musicians.

Tickets for the 10 p.m. show are $8 in advance and are available at Duffy's. Otherwise, you'll have to pay $10 at the door - if there are any tickets left.

Tuesday's show is the first night of a one-two punch of Texas music headed for Duffy's. On Wednesday, the O Street club will host Grand Champeen, a rock 'n' roll band that sounds a lot like some of Zellar's 1980s/'90s Minnesota comrades. You can read more about Grand Champeen on Page 12.

The big national movie news this week is the release of "HarryPotter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,"the third and best film in the highly lucrative series based on J.K. Rowling's books. But the local news is the reopening of the Joyo Theater following some remodeling of the old-style movie house at 6102 Havelock Ave.The Joyo will feature "Home on the Range," the Disney cartoon, this week - and "The RockyHorror Picture Show" will be back for Saturday midnight shows.

The Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery's annual Jazz in June concert series continues Tuesday at 7 p.m. with an appearance by singer Kendra Shank. Dubbed "one of the most innovative of present-day jazz vocalists,"Shank was turned on to jazz after hearing Billie Holiday on a CD. The former folkie has been wowing audiences since she switched genres in the early 1990s. The free concert will take place in the Sheldon's sculpture garden near 12th and R streets.

The Zoo Bar has a couple of notable offerings this week.

Tonight, lap steel wizard Sonny Rhodes returns to the Zoo. The Texas native, who calls himself the Disciple of the Blues, has been playing and recording the music he loves since the late 1950s and is known for the growl in his vocals and his commanding guitar work, whether he's being the "Texas Fender Bender" - the title of one of his records - or working the lap steel.

On Wednesday, Zoo favorite Billy Bacon and the Forbidden Pigs are back for a three-night stand. The Tex-Mex/rockabilly/country outfit usually plays through the weekend. But on June 12,Brave Combo is making one of its Zoo stops, so Bacon and company get only three nights of mayhem this time around.

P.S. Advance tickets for Brave Combo are $12 at the Zoo.It's always a good idea to get a ticket ahead of time for one of the nuclear polka band's shows, because they generally sell out.
